* 9 juillet :''"When any practice - including a restorative practice - is removed from its context of origin one of the elements lost is that of the community or organisational agreements within which that practice took form and from which it receives validation: what I have termed the restorative system.'' ''Since conflict accompanies human relations all ongoing partnerships include a justice system. The question is not if we have one or not, but which one we choose. And being unconscious of its presence means we have, perhaps against our wishes, acquired the dominant one in the cultural context we’re relating in.'' ''For societies dominated by European colonial influence the default justice system is oriented by a punitive ethos which seeks separation between those involved in the conflict, and the imposition of pain for the party deemed to have wronged.'' ''Removing a relational, dialogical practice from its context of origin and bringing it into a punitive system both distorts that practice and aligns its results with the guiding ethos of the system. It may now promote a participatory retribution, but it’s not Restorative Justice.'' ''Thus RJ is never limited to nor defined by the use of a certain practice, but necessarily involves the development of community or organisational agreements - which include and surpass a relational practice - that provide the conditions for dialogue and restorative action.'' »
*19 juin : ''" We’ve walked a long and careful path through the complexities of ‘left’ and ‘right’ parties all these years. Now we’re receiving stronger critiques from the faithful of both - not for our results or work, but for the unwillingness to play party sympathies.'' ''At present the ex-president, and front runner in last year’s election, is in jail on charges some believe to be unsafe. And the judge who put him there, now Minister of Justice, is in the Senate explaining leaked text messages showing his collaboration with prosecutors.'' ''However, whoever you’ve voted for over the last 20 years the formal justice system has overseen a 700% increase in Brazil’s incarcerated population, now the world’s 3rd largest and one of its most dangerous. Simultaneously, community safety and the sense of justice in society is at historic lows.'' ''Though there are clearly governments that support experiments with restorative approaches and those that don’t, and we have opinions on that, the punitive orientation continues to dominate our approach to community safety and justice across all major parties. With devastating impact for all.'' ''All major political parties continue woefully distant from adopting the kind of visionary and proven public policies that would seek to understand where so much violence comes from and how to effectively repair harm, restore community and re-weave the social fabric - the dialogical justification for a justice system.'' ''Until then the party faithful are right to criticise us. We are not limited in our sense of justice to supporting those we agree with and condemning those we don’t to the punitive nightmare of our current prisons or other forms of social exile. When justice is partisan it is not justice."''
